History of Kim's Martial Arts Academy

Kim's Martial Arts Academy was originally established in 1982. Master Kim became the Head Instructor in 1986. The school curriculum consists of four components: traditional Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Hapkido and Tai Chi. The school is sanctioned by: The World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF); The Kukkiwon, World Headquarters for Tae Kwon Do, Seoul; Korea Yong-In University, Yong-In, Korea; USA Judo, Inc.

Academy History

The head instructor of Kim's Martial Arts Academy is Grand Master Jung Ho Kim. Grand Master Kim is a native of Seoul, Korea. He has been training in the Martial Arts for over thirty years. He has earned seventh degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon do and Judo and a Fifth degree Black Belt in Hapkido. He is a graduate of the Yong-In University where, in 1980, he received a Bachelor of Physical Science in Martial Arts. Master Kim came to the United States in 1984 and settled in Chicago. There he met and began training Arlene Limas who, in 1988, went on to win an Olympic Gold Medal for the United States. Upon moving to Memphis, Grand Master Kim established Kim's Academy. Since then, Grand Master Kim has helped hundreds of students achieve their own personal level of success in Martial Art.



Tae Kwon Do

This is an art form that originated in Korea over 20 centuries ago, yet the basic philosophies and principles are still applicable in today's world. Tae Kwon Do, as all Martial Arts, is by nature a defensive art, utilizing natural body movements. Techniques can be easily learned as they are taught in a progressive manner. Improvements in stamina, concentration, self discipline, self confidence, and overall physical conditioning will be readily noticed. Basic blocking, kicking, and punching begin your training in self-defense. Tae Kwon Do is an art for all poeple at any age.

Judo

In Judo, the main philosophy revolves around the principle that "Smooth can beat Strong" or "Soft can beat Hard" Judo is a defensive art that utilizes the entire body in closed encounters. In Judo you will discover how flexible your body can become. This is a key factor in the techniques, which involve holding, falling, and throwing. An important factor is the use of your opponent's positioning and movement to your advantage. While Judo is certainly an art of the body in movement, it is also an exercise of the mind.
